This past Sunday, December 17th, 2023, Tishk International University gathered for a special celebration organized by the Dean of Students – the Kurdistan Flag Day

Shayan: Let’s talk about the flag! The Kurdish flag is special, with a bright golden sun (called “Roj” in Kurdish) in the middle. This sun has 21 rays, and it’s interesting because they are the same size, except for one at the top and two at the bottom. The number 21 is important and means rebirth in the old Kurdish religion. The colors of the flag are meaningful, too. Red is for the martyrs and the struggle for freedom, green is for the beauty of Kurdistan, yellow is for energy and light, and white is for peace and equality.

The event started with the Kurdish national anthem, “Ay Raqib.” Dr. Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees of TIU, shared some words with the students and staff. Mr. Abdulmalik Ismail, a student in Medical Analysis and our university representative, spoke on behalf of the students.

Then, under the guidance of Mr. Rebwar Abdula, the Daf Club Instructor, we enjoyed some national anthems. The highlight was when the Kurdistan flag was raised proudly in front of the main building.

But that’s not all! On the same day, an art exhibition about the Kurdistan flag occurred. With the help of Mrs. Khwmar, the Art Club Instructor, our talented students created beautiful portraits.

It was a day full of national anthems, speeches, and art – a day where we celebrated our identity and unity. Tishk International University is proud to participate in events that unite our community.
